A Guide to Preparing for Your Getting-Ready Photos

A Photographer’s Guide

A little preparation goes a long way when it comes to your getting-ready photos. These moments set the tone for your wedding gallery, and thoughtful details help create a calm start to the day.

Details to have ready in one place
Gather your key items so they’re easy to photograph without searching:

  • Your wedding invitation suite

  • Rings

  • Bouquet

  • Shoes

  • Jewellery

  • Perfume

  • Any heirlooms or sentimental items

  • Optional extras like vow books or a handwritten note

Dress prep matters

  • Have a nice coat hanger ready for your dress — wooden hangers photograph beautifully

  • Steam or iron dresses the night before, especially bridesmaid dresses.

  • Leave the dress hanging somewhere accessible, ideally near a window or doorway, so it can be photographed easily in natural light

Choose your getting-ready space

  • Natural light matters — a room with a window makes a huge difference

  • Your makeup artist will usually guide this, but it’s worth keeping in mind when choosing where to get ready

Keep the space clutter-free

  • Ask your bridesmaids to be mindful of bags, drink bottles, makeup kits, and clothing

  • A tidy space keeps photos timeless, and focused on you

What to wear while getting ready

  • Choose something comfortable but pretty — a robe, matching PJs, or a button-up shirt. Please iron them

  • Feeling good in what you’re wearing shows in your photos

Look after yourself

  • Eat snacks, drink plenty of water, and keep your energy up

  • A relaxed, well-cared-for bride will enjoy her day to the fullest

A little thought here allows you to put your brain energy elsewhere on the day — and ensures your getting-ready photos feel effortless, elegant, and true to you.

Happy planning
