What to Wear for a Branding Photoshoot: 5 Top Styling Tips

What should I wear to my photoshoot?

It’s one of the most common questions I hear, and for good reason! When it comes to branding or commercial photography, your outfit plays a big role in helping you look confident and represent your brand well.

The good news? You don’t need a whole new wardrobe or a suitcase full of outfits. A little bit of thought and planning goes a long way.

Here are 5 tips to help you nail your outfit:

1. Colours

Start by thinking about your brand colours. You don’t want your clothing to clash with your existing branding, especially if your images will be used across your website and social media.

Neutral tones and classic colours are timeless and versatile. A simple white shirt, for example, can work beautifully across a wide range of images and settings. It’s also easier to reuse those photographs without them feeling dated or overly styled.

That said, your personal style matters too! If bold patterns, bright colours or statement pieces are part of your brand identity, we can absolutely work with that.

Think about the overall feeling you want your brand to give: professional, creative, approachable, luxurious, fun or bold. Your clothing should help communicate that.

2. Consider bringing more than one outfit

If your package includes multiple outfits, bringing a second look is a great way to create more variety from your branding session.

In my ‘Elevate’ package, for example, we can photograph up to two outfits, allowing you to create two distinct looks that can be used across different parts of your business.

For example, you might choose:

  • A polished, professional look

  • Something more relaxed and approachable

My biggest tip? Utilise accessories. A jacket, hat, glasses, different shoes, or statement jewellery can completely change the feel of a photo without changing your entire outfit. Giving you more variety across your gallery.

3. Textures and layers

When it comes to branding photography, natural fibres and subtle tones photograph beautifully and create a more timeless, elevated feel.

Think fabrics like:

  • Linen

  • Cotton

  • Knitwear

  • Denim

  • Soft knits

  • Natural, textured fabrics

Texture is particularly beautiful on camera. It adds depth and visual interest to an image. Think a cardigan over a dress or a blazer over a shirt.

4. The details

It’s often the little things that make an image feel polished and professional.

Please make sure your clothes are freshly ironed or steamed. Shoes should be clean and fingernails tidy.

Be mindful of logos and bright colours

Generally, I recommend avoiding large logos and large brand writing, unless it’s related to your own business, of course.

Remember, these images are representing you and your business. When a potential client lands on your website or sees your images on social media, you want them to immediately feel that you are professional, confident, approachable and someone they can trust.

The right clothing and attention to the little details help create that feeling before you've even said a word.

5. Choose clothes that make you feel amazing

If you feel uncomfortable in what you’re wearing, it will show in your photographs. Choose clothes that fit well, make you feel confident and allow you to move naturally.

Your branding shoot should still feel like you.

Whether you’re booking a personal branding photoshoot, commercial headshots or another type of business photography, I hope this guide has helped you feel more confident about choosing outfits that suit you and your brand
